The Tin Building/Carne Mare

It’s been months and months since I finally experienced the Seaport sensation that is the Tin Building. Now that I no longer work at World Trade, I very rarely find myself allll they way downtown. Over Memorial Day Weekend, however, with Jen and the girls in town, we made plans to meet Richard (and then-new baby Magnus!) on his turf. Everyone had been talking about the Tin Building, a Jean-Georges designed market and food hall.

There are stalls for everything from fine dining to counter-service BECs. There’s also a candy shop, floral stall, market, and more – each a visual stunner. Everything just feels fresh and each experience is a unique and curated corner. If you enjoy perusing Eataly or Le District, you’ll absolutely love the Tin Building because it’s a similar but more luxe vibe.

After strolling the shops in the Tin Building, we walked out the back and over to Carne Mare. Andrew Carmellini is a fave chef who knows what he’s doing. I’m never disappointed when I hit up Bar Primi, for instance. It was a lovely day so we chilled outside with some rosé and snacks, gazing at the river, not ready for a full lunch. I ordered Finn an avocado and some potatoes, which had perfectly crispy skin that we had to get an order for the table. Also for the table: the cariar-topped mozz sticks. This is why people go to this place. I know it seems like such a gimmick…but they were really delicious. Take two luxuries, one highbrow and one lowbrow, and you’re in for a treat. Double the luxury, double the moans of delight. I wish I could say I tried more things, but this was a relaxed hang, not a full meal situation. No matter why or when you’re there, though, it’s a splurge so file this one away for a client dinner. Real businessman vibes up in here.

The Seaport may not be a grungy (or cheap) area anymore, but it is a fun place to explore.
